This pack has been well loved and had years of heavy wear. What started as a repair became apparent as a time suck that might not end well once I ripped the mesh off the front right side of the pack. Once I realized repairing this pack was no longer practical, I decided I wanted to learn as much as I could from it.
Hydration packs are expensive for a reason. If your pack gets to this level of wear, my recommendation is to buy a new one—not tear it apart.
But since I had already crossed that line, I decided to get as much out of it as I could. I’m leaving the other side intact. That gives me a manufactured example to study as I figure out what gets sewn first, how the pieces fit together, and how the construction actually works. The next video will show how to prolong the life of the other side by repairing the worn power mesh without tearing the original mesh out.
Over the next few months, we’re going to sort this out one step at a time.

Once I removed the mesh on the pack, I realized replacing it would turn into a massive project. No longer appropriate for a pack that is so old. But, we can learn from it and tackle that massive project one step at a time going forward.
